Our commitment
The VIC is committed to making this tenant portal usable for everyone, including people who use screen readers, keyboard navigation, screen magnification, or other assistive technology.
The standard we build to
We aim to conform to the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.2, Level AA, the benchmark most widely used to judge whether a website is accessible. We build to that standard across the portal.
What we've done
- Every screen can be operated by keyboard alone, in a logical order, with a visible focus indicator.
- Dialogs and menus trap focus while open and return it when closed.
- Text and interface colours meet the required contrast ratios.
- Images carry text alternatives, and forms have proper labels.
- A “skip to content” link is the first thing a keyboard user reaches.
- The site respects a reduced-motion preference and never flashes.
- Automated accessibility checks run against the pages as part of our testing.
We do not use an accessibility overlay or widget. Overlays do not fix the underlying code, so we build accessibility into the pages themselves.
Known limitations
We test regularly, but a few areas are worth naming honestly:
- Some embedded third-party content (such as the map on the dashboard) is provided by another service and is not fully under our control.
- Downloadable documents, such as amenity waiver PDFs, may not meet the same standard as the site itself. Ask us and we will provide the content in another format.
- Automated testing catches only part of what matters, so if something is hard to use, please tell us — that is how we find it.
Tell us about a problem
If you hit an accessibility barrier anywhere in the portal, email staff@thevicwa.com with the page and what happened. We aim to respond within five business days and to fix confirmed issues as quickly as we can.
